Apple taps Google Gemini to power a revamped Siri

Apple and Google have a multi-year agreement to use Gemini models and Google cloud technology for upcoming Apple Intelligence features, including a Siri upgrade. The rollout is expected later this year.

Apple and Google have a multi-year agreement that puts Google’s Gemini models behind Apple’s next Siri upgrade, according to a report published today.

Search Engine Land reported that Apple will use Gemini AI models plus Google cloud infrastructure to support future Apple Foundation Models. Google said in a statement shared on X that these models will help power Apple Intelligence features, including a Siri update positioned as more personalized and coming this year. The statement also said Apple Intelligence will continue running on Apple devices and via Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, while maintaining Apple’s privacy standards.

The report noted Apple was already in talks in September about using a custom Gemini model for a revamped Siri. It also reported Apple delayed its Siri AI upgrade last year after marketing the feature. Search Engine Land dated the news to Jan. 12, 2026, and said the partnership is expected to roll out later this year.
