Anthropic previews Cowork, an agentic Claude workspace for files and tasks
Anthropic launched Cowork today as a research preview that lets Claude work directly in a folder you choose. The feature ships first to Claude Max subscribers in the macOS app.
Anthropic announced today that Cowork is available as a research preview, positioning it as a “Claude Code”-style workflow aimed at non-developer tasks. Cowork launches for Claude Max subscribers inside the Claude macOS app, where it appears in the sidebar as “Cowork.”
Cowork works by granting Claude explicit access to a folder you select, allowing it to read, edit, and create files within that directory. Anthropic says Cowork can also use existing connectors and adds an initial set of skills geared toward producing documents, presentations, and other files.
For browser-dependent tasks, Anthropic states Cowork can be paired with Claude in Chrome. Anthropic also says the preview is released early to learn how people use it, with planned improvements that include cross-device sync and a Windows version, while access for non-Max users starts with a waitlist.
